Admissions

In order to apply for studying at the University of Nizhni Novgorod (UNN) an applicant should go through the following admissions procedure:

1st step (Application): Submit detailed application form on-line or send a filled-in application form by e-mail (or fax) to the office of the Faculty for International Students (FIS) (see “Contacts”) with the following documents in the attachment:

  • copy of your international passport (all fulfilled pages)
  • copies of your educational documents (certified translation into Russian is not required if the document is issued in English or French)
  • medical certificate received not earlier than 3 months prior to the date of submission of the documents proving the absence of contra-indications for study in Russia, and the results of an AIDS test

2nd step (Contract): In case the set of documents provided is accepted by UNN, you will be informed by an admissions officer and receive a study contract by email. You should sign the contract and send it back to the FIS office (admissions@fis.unn.ru). The University signs 2 copies of the Contract, registers and certifies them with its seal. Afterwards you will receive one copy of the signed Contract by email.

3rd step (Payment of fees): In accordance with international practice you must pay your tuition fees before your arrival at the University. This can be done by bank transfer to the University’s account (you will find the account number in your contract). In this case you pay the fee under the registered study contract at your local bank and send a copy of receipt to the University.

4th step (Invitation and visa): In case all the recruitments stipulated in the Contract are fulfilled and your payment of fees is confirmed, the University addresses the Federal Migration Service (FMS) of Russia to launch the invitation process. The FMS issues an invitation letter approximately 6 weeks after the University`s official request. The original invitation letter is required in order to obtain a student visa at the local Russian Embassy.

5th step (Arrival): After you obtain the visa, you must buy the plane (train) tickets to Nizhni Novgorod and inform the University about the date of your arrival.
Students must come to Russia no later than one month before the expiry of the initial three-month visa in order to have enough time to prolong this student visa. The Federal Migration Service may refuse to prolong your visa if you come to Russia later than this date.
On the additional request (please, contact your admissions officer), you can be met at Nizhni Novgorod airport or railroad station and guided to the University.

Note: It is a must to come to the Faculty for International Students Office (UNN build. 2, office 308) on the first working day after your arrival in Nizhni Novgorod in order to be registered in the FMS.

In order to become a student of the University of Nizhni Novgorod, you must submit the following documents at the Faculty Office:

  • valid national passport;
  • migration card;
  • originals of education documents (legalized or apostilled school certificate (or diploma) + marks);
  • state-approved certificate of equivalence of education;
  • international HIV certificate;
