Research Scholarship

UNN offers scholarships for postgraduate (Ph.D.) and Master's degree students for taking part in internship programs with the aim of mastering modern research methods and implemen­tation of research projects in priority research areas of UNN under the guidance of UNN's leading scientists.

Priority research areas of UNN:

  • Neuroscience
  • Information and communication systems and technologies, supercomputer computation, protection of information
  • Materials Science
  • Physics of wave processes, interaction of radiation with matter
  • Molecular-biological, physical, chemical, biomedical and ecological basis of living systems
  • Knowledge-based economy, entrepreneurship including innovational entrepreneurship
  • Social and economic and humanitarian aspects of information and communication technologies
  • Communication, mass-media
  • International aspects of social and economic and humanitarian problems, globalization
    • Study scholarships will be awarded in the amount of 30000 RUB (about 850 USD) per month, paid for a period up to four months.

      REGULATIONS

      on the open competition for scholarships of the Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod (UNN) for postgraduate (Ph.D.) and Master’s degree students of Russian and foreign universities and research organizations

      1. General provisions

      1.1. The scholarship program aims to attract talented postgraduate and Master’s degree students to UNN to carry out research and development in priority research areas of UNN.

      1.2. The scholarship program is organised and financed by the Fund for competitive support of educational and scientific activity, academic mobility of students, postgraduate students and young researchers and teachers of UNN (hereinafter, the Fund) in the framework of Activity 3.4.2 of the Program to enhance UNN’s competitiveness among the world's leading research and education centers (hereinafter - the Program).

      1.3. Scholarships are offered to postgraduate and Master’s degree students for taking part in internship programs with the aim of mastering modern research methods and implementation of research projects under the guidance of UNN’s leading scientists.

      1.4. As a result of the research project carried out by the scholarship recipient, a paper affiliated with UNN must be prepared to be presented for publication in scientific journals indexed in Web of Science and/or Scopus international bibliographic databases.
      Contributions of scholarship recipients performing research in the field of social sciences and humanities may also be presented to journals indexed in the Russian Science Citation Index bibliographic database, provided that the impact factor of the corresponding journal is not below 0.1.

      1.5. The competition is open to postgraduate and Master’s degree students enrolled in Russian and foreign educational institutions and research organizations who demonstrate high levels of academic and research activity in the subjects relevant to research platforms identified in the Strategy of the Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod - National Research University 2020.

      1.6. Research projects may be supervised by leading scholars of UNN having the experience of supervision of postgraduate students’ work.

      1.7. The winners of the competition are awarded scholarships in the amount of 30000 (thirty thousand roubles) per month for a period up to four months.

      1.8. A labour contract is concluded with the internship supervisor (project curator) to provide scientific supervision of the internship.

      2. Competition procedure

      2.1. Applicants for the scholarship submit the following documents in electronic form (a scanned copy) at lve@fis.unn.ru:

      • application to participate in the competition,
      • CV,
      • copy of international passport,
      • motivation letter,
      • letter of recommendation,
      • certificate confirming their status of a postgraduate or Master’s degree student,
      • certified list of publications.

      2.2. The application is accepted for consideration after the applicant submits a complete set of documents listed in paragraph 2.1. Hard copies of documents making part of the application should be certified by an organization where the applicant studies.

      2.3. Potential internship supervisors - UNN staff members confirm their consent for supervision of the internship.

      2.4. The Fund has the right to request additional supporting documents from educational institutions and research organizations where applicants study, if necessary.

      2.5. The package of application documents prepared by scholarship applicants, as well as all the correspondence related to these documents should be submitted in English or Russian.

      2.6. Scholarship applicants shall bear all costs associated with the preparation and submission of the required documents for the competition.

      2.7. Information on the results of the competition and the list of winners are posted on the Fund's website.

      2.8. To be enrolled in the internship program, competition winners submit to UNN a reference letter from the organization where they study.
